January 1: "herd immunity" as a New Years' resolution?![edit]

I don't think it's appropriate for Wiktionary to call for a crime against humanity on specious medical grounds and strongly object to its placement on January 1 under a theme of "New Years' resolutions". פֿינצטערניש (Fintsternish), she/her (talk) 11:17, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Lingo Bingo Dingo this isn't appropriate. I appreciate your work in general but whoever proposed this is sick and it needs to be ignored. פֿינצטערניש (Fintsternish), she/her (talk) 11:19, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? What are you talking about? Relevant portion of the definition at herd immunity: the immunity may have been obtained through having survived the infection or through vaccination. Does this have specific political connotations in some place? Whatever is the case, I'm willing to replace it and will certainly do so if these concerns are shared by anyone else or if those connotations are widespread anywhere. Should I raise it in the Tea room or Beer parlour? ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 11:29, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm sorry if you were blissfully unaware but in the United States, the Trump administration has been actively sabotaging efforts to prevent the spread of COVID out of a twisted belief that by giving everyone COVID, Americans will acquire herd immunity. This is not backed up by any actual epidemiologists but is currently being pushed by a neuroradiologist close to the administration, and likely constitutes a crime against humanity for which, in a just world, he would be tried and convicted. Similarly in the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson initially suggested this early in the pandemic, ultimately reversing his position (I think?) after outcry and pushback from epidemiologists. Trump, of course, isn't one to ever admit he was wrong about anything. פֿינצטערניש (Fintsternish), she/her (talk) 11:45, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll look for a different FWOTD. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 11:49, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rest of January[edit]

@פֿינצטערניש Would you mind checking the other prepared words for ones that could be politically loaded? ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 18:59, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Everything looks good to me, although I obviously don't know everything that's politically loaded. פֿינצטערניש (Fintsternish), she/her (talk) 00:08, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
