Intend to oppose[edit]

I intend to oppose this vote because:

  • the citation templates have not been filled out with enough bibliographic information, such as the subreddit and post title;
  • no |archiveurl= for the Wayback Machine or similar service has been included (see my vote comment at the "FaCIAbook" vote);
  • there is not enough context in the given quotes to demonstrate that they support the sense at hand.

Yes I know I can fix it myself, but I feel like I should make some noise and be a little bit annoying now, so I don't end up being the one on whose shoulders it falls to tidy these up for all eternity. This, that and the other (talk) 04:07, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am inclined to oppose because accepting just any random reddit or twitter comment is inviting trolls to make up terms endlessly. (And when combined with the way some people think celebrity nicknames are idiomatic, we're going to get a fun number of personal attack terms too in the vein of Eve Barflow, Eve Fartlow, Amber Turd, but with the requirement for use reduced to "any one person who can make three accounts".) - -sche (discuss) 16:31, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@-sche This point was brought up at the original vote implementing this policy; the "spanning more than a year" rule is supposed to help mitigate that kind of nonsense. Plus you can always vote down individual terms where you believe the cites may not be independent.
For the record, I'll support this vote if the above issues are addressed. This, that and the other (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Allowing online sources ≠ allowing anyone who can make a reddit account and set a phone/calendar alarm. (I could support citations from news media websites, for example.) - -sche (discuss) 23:44, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is an actual slur used within certain circles of the anti-trans movement. (It's also used as affectionate slang for the Metroid video game franchise.) I could probably cite this via Twitter. But I'm disinclined to expend the required time and energy given that this is probably just going to be binned along with every other word attested through online sources.
