Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as winisen in 1153. Likely derived from Proto-Germanic *winisa (“pasture”). A derivation from Old Dutch Winso (“a personal name”) with collectivising suffix -ing- is unlikely. Compare Neerwinden.
