Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as winisen in 1153. Likely derived from Proto-Germanic *winisa (pasture). A derivation from Old Dutch Winso (a personal name) with collectivising suffix -ing- is unlikely. Compare Neerwinden.
