Etymology[edit]
Potentially attested as withuis in 1399-1400, attested with certainty as Withuys in 1803-1820. Derived from a compound of wit (“white”) and huis (“house”). Named after a farmhouse formerly owned by the Cistercian monastery of Val-Saint-Lambert in Liège.
