Etymology[edit]

By analogy to the iron curtain, with Zion being a reference to the law arising from the prohibition doctrine of Mormonism, and the political influence of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  1. (US, Utah) A barrier required by Utah state law (until July 2017) to hide areas where alcohol was prepared from restaurant patrons.
