Etymology
From Old Galician-Portuguese aldeia, aldea, from Arabic اَلضَّيْعَة (aḍ-ḍayʕa, “village”). Cognate with Galician aldea, Asturian aldea, Mirandese aldé, Spanish aldea and Aragonese aldeya.
