From anga (“handle”) + -azo, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Gothic or (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Suevic, from Proto-Germanic *angô (“hook, angle”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enk- (“something bent, hook”). Cognate with Portuguese engaço.[1]
