Composed of the words ará (people) +‎ ayé (world), literally people of the world. This word has cognates in the Yoruboid language continuum with the meaning mainly being that of a single individual, and not humanity as a collective as in Standard Yoruba. It is cognates with Itsekiri irẹ́yé (person), Oǹdó Yoruba iáyé (person), Èkìtì Yoruba ịráyé (person), Ìlàjẹ Yoruba iráyé (person)
