Noun

ballas (plural ballases)

  1. (mineralogy) A spherical aggregate of small diamond grains that have a radial or granular structure.
    • 1987, L. F. Vereshchagin, Synthetic Diamonds and Hydrostatic Extrusion, Selected Papers, page 89:
Ballases with smooth even surface yield X-ray patterns of rings only, without noticeable spots or with very small spots, which is an evidence of a fine-ray radial structure of these spherulites.
