Galician

Berberechos, croques or carneiros

Alternative forms

Etymology

Unknown. Perhaps from a substrate language;[1] otherwise from berbecho (cockle; goatee), from a local Vulgar Latin *berbēcclus < *berbēciclus, a diminutive of Latin berbēx ("ram", compare Galician carneiro (warty venus ((Lua error in Module:taxlink at line 68: Parameter "ver" is not used by this template.); cockle, literally ram))). In any case, related to Portuguese berbigão.
