Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from English beefsteak. It is based on writing the English pronunciation according the Spanish orthography rules. It has been widely speculated it came to use in the 19th century. Contrast the French concept of bifteck avec frites, since Waterloo according to Mon Dictionnaire de Cuisine.
