  1. (historical) Any of several types of coin once minted in Bologna.
    • 1986, Philip Grierson, Lucia Travaini, Medieval European Coinage: Volume 14, South Italy, Sicily, Sardinia:
      Matteo di Capua followed the example of Chieti, the centre of his authority in the region, by striking a grosso agontano as well as a bolognino, the latter being of papal type with the bust of a saint, and the saint, shown standing on the grosso, being St Nicolas.
