From Proto-Albanian *būtsā, or Proto-Albanian *būðā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰudʰmḗn (“bottom”), possibly from *dʰewb- (“deep”). Cognate to Sanskrit बुध्न (budhna, “bottom”), Ancient Greek πυθμήν (puthmḗn, “bottom”), and Old English botm (English bottom).
