Etymology[edit]

From archaic and now chiefly dialectal (Arbëresh) budhë, from Proto-Albanian *budjā, from Proto-Indo-European *bhudh-men 'bottom'. Close to Lithuanian bude 'tree-fungus, tinder, whetstone'[1], Sanskrit बुध्न (budhna), Ancient Greek πυθμήν (puthmḗn, foundation), Latin fundus (bottom, piece of land, farm).
