Alternative forms

Etymology

Possibly borrowed from Albanian kësulë (var. kaçule). Compare Aromanian căciulă, Greek κασοῦλα (kasoûla). Alternatively cognate to it as Balkan substratum word, or akin to Latin casula or cuculla. Other attempts have been made to link it to a Vulgar Latin *catteula, from *cattea, from cattus, to *casibula, variant of casubula, but these are unlikely. Compare also Venetian caciòła.

Noun

cãciulã f (plural cãciuli or cãciule)

  1. hat, cap, fez
