Possibly borrowed from Albanian kësulë (var. kaçule). Compare Aromanian cãciulã, cãciuã, Greek κασοῦλα ‎(kasoῦla). Alternatively cognate to it as Balkan substratum word, or akin to Latin casula or cuculla. Other attempts have been made to link it to a Latin *catteula, from *cattea, from cattus, to *casibula, variant of casubula, but these are unlikely. Compare also Venetian caciòła.

căciulă f ‎(plural căciuli)

  1. a fur cap
