Romanian[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *cautelinus, from Latin cautēla, or alternatively from Latin continue or continuō ‎(continuously), forms of continuus (compare similar phonetic change in către < contra); the normal result in Romanian would have been *cătinu, to which the suffix -el may have been added, in analogy with încetinel.
