Possibly from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic قَالِب (qālib, mold), itself from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek καλαπούς (kalapoús), a term related to shoemaking. Or, possibly a derivation of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin qua libra, "of what dimensions, weight."
