From a substrate term *cambica derived with the Latin suffix -īle; from Proto-Celtic *kambos (“twisted, crooked”),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kh₂emb- (“to bend, curve”). Cognate with Portuguese canzil. Compare canga.
