English

Etymology

It has been claimed that the name was given to avoid the higher taxes on decorative glassware that did not apply to practical household ware.

celery vase (plural celery vases)

  1. (historical) A tall glass vase of the Victorian era, ostensibly to store and serve celery stalks.
