Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *ɟuːm, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *bɟum ~ *bɟuum ~ *bɟuəm ~ *bɟəm (“bunch, to gather together”); directly cognate with chòm. See also chụm (“to assemble, to gather together”), cụm (“cluster, bunch”), xúm (“to form group”).
