Etymology

Generally said to be from crowd, due to some varieties having seeds crowded together in the pod, but possibly from crowdy (porridge, gruel)

  1. A type of cowpea, Vigna unguiculata, closely related to the black-eyed pea, but without the characteristic black spot.
