[edit]From Ottoman Turkish دیشمك (deşmek), دشمك (deşmek), from Proto-Turkic *teĺ- (“to make holes”).[1] Cognate with Azerbaijani deşmək, Uzbek teshmoq, Kyrgyz тешүү (teşüü), Yakut тэс (tes, “to pierce through”). According to Nişanyan[2] it is related to delmek.
