Etymology

From Old Galician-Portuguese descalço, from Vulgar Latin *discalceus, itself either from a shortening of discalceātus, from Late Latin discalceō, or from Latin dis- + calceus. Cognate with Galician descalzo, Spanish descalzo, Catalan descalç, Occitan descauç, French déchaux, Italian scalzo and Romanian desculț.
