Etymology[edit]

disputed

  1. from Proto-Albanian *delwa, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰelh₃- (gleam, yellow), a tabooistic substitute of the original *sóh₂wl̥, based on a color objective. Cf Skt hári, Lat helvus, lith žalias. [1]
  2. From Proto-Indo-European *s(h₂)wél-jo- (sun), from the oblique stem of *sóh₂wl̥. For the development of the initial compare djersë (sweat) from *sweyd-, and dergjem (lie ill), from mediopassive Proto-Indo-European *sworgʰ-eje-, from *swergʰ (watch over, worry).
