From earlier droncarde, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English *druncard (attested as a surname, Druncard), possibly from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German drunkert, equivalent to drunk +‎ -ard (pejorative agent suffix).
