Etymology[edit]

From Latin exsūctus (through a intermediate 13th century form eixuito), past participle of exsūgō, from ex- (out of) and sūgō (to suck). Cognate of Portuguese enxuto, and also of Spanish enjuto, Catalan eixut, Asturian ensuchu.
