Etymology

From Latin exsūctus (through a intermediate 13th century form eixuito), past participle of exsūgō, from ex- (“out of”) and sūgō (“to suck”). Cognate of Portuguese enxuto, and also of Spanish enjuto, Catalan eixut, Asturian ensuchu.
