From epiglottide, from New Latin epiglottis, from Ancient Greek ἐπιγλωττίς (epiglōttís), derived from γλῶττα (glôtta), variant of γλῶσσα (glôssa, “tongue”). By surface analysis, epiglottid(e) (“epiglottis”) + -ale (“-al”, adjectival derivational suffix).
