From epiglottide, from New Latin epiglottis, from Ancient Greek ἐπιγλωττίς (epiglōttís), derived from γλῶττα (glôtta), variant of γλῶσσα (glôssa, tongue). By surface analysis, epiglottid(e) (epiglottis) +‎ -ale (-al, adjectival derivational suffix).
