Borrowed from French étape, German Etappe, Italian tappa, Spanish etapa, Russian этап (etap), all ultimately from Middle Dutch stapel.

  1. (intransitive) to halt at a stage (in travel)
    L'aeroplano etapos unfoye pro alimentar antee ni arivor.
    The airplane will stop one time to fuel before we arrive.
