Etymology

From Middle Irish fócraid, from Old Irish fo·úacair, from Proto-Celtic *uɸo- + *(o)uxs- + *garyeti (to call), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵeh₂r- (compare Latin garriō, Ossetian зарын (zaryn), зарун (zarun)).[1]
