Etymology[edit]

From Swedish fyrk, a coin and monetary unit used in Sweden from 15th to 17th century, originally equivalent to four (in Swedish fyra) pennings. In the 19th century the term fyrk was used of a unit for counting taxes and voting rights in the municipal election.
