Etymology
From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *gat-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *gwem- (“to go”). Cognate to Sanskrit गति (gáti-, “going, course”), Proto-Slavic *gatь (cf. Russian гать (gatʹ, “road of brushwood, weir”)). Related to ngas.[1] Compare also the related Romanian gata (“ready”), which is also an invariable adjective.
