geôle
French
Etymology
From Middle French geole, from Old French gaiole, from Vulgar Latin *caveola (perhaps through Medieval Latin gabiola), a diminutive of Latin cavea. The circumflex on the o is not etymological (no elided letter) and is probably to represent the vowel sound /o/.
