Etymology

[edit]

Around February 2024. Ultimately originates from an earlier Internet meme depicting a chicken nugget with a stylistic cartoonish face (taken from the video game platform Roblox) singing sped up and higher pitched renditions of various songs. Gegagedigedagedago is taken from the first line of a July 2023 cover by TikToker @razioff of the 1994 song "Cotton Eye Joe" by Swedish Eurodance group Rednex, which became the song most associated with the chicken nugget meme. The initial lyric, already hardly intelligible is "if it hadn't been for cotton eye Joe", which when sped up and given a higher pitch in the cover by @razioff made the sentence sound like a nonlexical scat vocable. The lyric itself was first transcribed as early as 30 January 2024.[1] See also skibidi.
