Cognate with Old Saxon gilōƀian, Middle Low German gelȫven, Middle Dutch ghelōven, Dutch geloven, Old English gelēfan, gelīefan (see also English believe, from Old English belȳfan, belēfan), Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐌻𐌰𐌿𐌱𐌾𐌰𐌽 (galaubjan).
