1. Indicates a time or age in the very near future.

   It's going on three o'clock.

   "How old are you?" ―"Going on nineteen."

Usage notes

• Sometimes used humorously to suggest that a person is precocious or mature before their time: e.g. "she was seventeen going on forty".
