  1. (US, rail transport, historical) A railroad used mainly for transporting the produce of farmers or grangers.
    • 1959, Steam's Finest Hour, edited by David P. Morgan, Kalmbach Publishing Co, page 40:
      The largest single class of 4-8-4's - Rock Island's 65 5000's - was ordered by a granger road as early as 1929.
