  1. In voodoo, one of the dualistic aspects of the soul, responsible for basic biological functions such as blood flow and breathing.
    • 1953, Maya Deren, Divine Horsemen, McPherson & Company, published 2004, page 26:
      The gros-bon-ange is the metaphysical double of the physical being, and, since it does not exist in the world of matter, it is the immortal twin who survives the mortal man.
