From Proto-Brythonic *webussu (compare Breton gweuz, Welsh gwefus), compound of *we- and Proto-Celtic *bussu (“lip”) (compare Scottish Gaelic bus, Old Irish busóc (“kiss”)), from Proto-Indo-European *bus- (“to kiss”) (compare Latin bāsium (“kiss”), Lithuanian bučiúoti, Albanian buzë (“mouth”), Persian بوسیدن (bōsīdan, “to kiss”)).
