Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *ksandā, from pre-Albanian *skandneh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kand- ‎(to shine) (compare Welsh can ‎(white), Latin candeō ‎(I shine, gleam), Sanskrit चन्द्र ‎(candrá, shining; moon)). One might also consider a connection to Ancient Greek ἕνος ‎(hénos, old moon) and Latin annus ‎(year).
