Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *ksandā, from pre-Albanian *skandneh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kand- ‘to shine’ (compare Welsh can ‘white’, Latin candere ‘to shine, gleam’, Sanskrit candrá ‘shining; moon’). One might also consider a connection to Ancient Greek ἕνος (hénos, old moon) and Latin annus (year).
