Etymology

Back-formation from haránték, harántos (thwart), two obsolete adjectives, themselves from Proto-Uralic *kurɜ (curved, skewed, crooked; make curved, skewed, crooked). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1][2]
