From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English heedwarke, hedewarke, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English hēafodwærc (pain in the head, headache), equivalent to head +‎ wark. Cognate with Danish hovedvark (headache), Swedish huvudvärk (headache), Icelandic höfuðverkur (headache).
