Finnish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *häici (“flower, inflorescence”) (compare Estonian õis (“flower”)), borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Lithuanian žiedas).[1] The words heitiä and hedelmä (“fruit”) are derived from the same Proto-Finnic root.
The modern meaning "viburnum" is a backformation from heisipuu.
