hemoglobinemia (uncountable)

  1. (pathology) The presence of free (unbound) hemoglobin in the blood (which is always true to a low degree); especially, more than normal amounts of it (hyperhemoglobinemia), in contrast with the usual situation wherein almost all hemoglobin is carried inside erythrocytes; it is a sign of hemolysis.
