Uncertain. Attested from the 20th century, originally in African-American English.[1] Likely from hootchy-kootchy, an erotic dance of unknown origin.

  1. (derogatory, slang) A woman who dresses scantily or in a revealing fashion.
    • 2000, Tariq Nasheed, The Art of Mackin’, page 47:
