Etymology[edit]

Ilde is originally the adverb of the obsolete adjective ild, from Old Norse illr (adverb illa), from Proto-Germanic *ilhilaz, cognate with Swedish illa (only an adverb). The Old Norse word was borrowed into as English ill.
