Unknown, but identical to Nynorsk innmari. Perhaps related to mare (evil night spirit) or marig (rotting, difficult). Probably also related to Swedish marig.

Unknown. Probably related to mare (evil night spirit) and Swedish marig. Attested in a rune inscription carved in a stone in Trøndelag not earlier than 16th century CE.
