Etymology[edit]
A new word coined in the 1870s from jēg(t) (“to know, to understand”) + -iens.[1]

- concept, idea (an abstraction that reflects an object or a phenomenon in its essential characteristics)
- laika jēdziens ― the concept, idea of time

- jēdziena saturs ― the contents of a concept
- pilsētas skaistums - tas ir plašs jēdziens ― the beauty of a city, that is a broad concept
