Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle Dutch joken, juecken, long-vowel variants of jocken, jucken, from Old Dutch *jukken, from Proto-Germanic *jukjaną. The long vowels developed before the single consonants in the 2nd and 3rd person singular forms, e.g. Old Dutch 3rd person singular *jukit.

Cognate with German jucken, English itch.
